This dataset has been derived from a number of different national and or state key road datasets. The road datasets include the National Land Transport Network as determined by the Minister in the National Land Transport Network Determination 2020 under the National Land Transport Act 2014, Key Freight Routes roads and sections of the Roads of Strategic Importance that connect or close gaps in this derived road network. Some roads have been provided by State and Territory Government agencies in consultation with the Department, or identified by the Department based on its knowledge of local conditions and existing issues with mobile coverage.

There are about 180,000 km of major roads in regional, rural and remote Australia where Accenture will conduct drive testing of mobile coverage. Each road will be tested each year for three years until 30 June 2027.
