Data provided for 792 community sites throughout the Northern Territory. Data provided as at 15/08/2024. This data has been approved for public display.</span></p><p style='margin:0 0 2 0;'><span style='font-size:12pt'>Data includes a URL linkingto each communities profile. Community ID, Name, Location, Community Type, Main Language, Land Council, Electorate, Population, Population Source, Latitude and Longitude.</span></p><p style='margin:0 0 10 0;'><span style='font-size:12pt'>BushTel is named after the famous Bush Telegraph, the unofficial chain of communication through which news, information and rumours were spread throughout the country. The term became synonymous with the quick carriage of any tale worth telling.</span></p><p style='margin:0 0 10 0;'><span style='font-size:12pt'>The BushTel website was launched in 2006 as part of the Northern Territory Government’s initiative to provide information on remote communities including social, cultural and statistical information that would assist in achieving outcomes in the bush and allow for informed decision making.</span></p><p style='margin:0 0 10 0;'><span style='font-size:12pt'>The BushTel site has been essentially unchanged since its launch with around 2000 users per month. In 2015, the NT Government committed to upgrading the system.</span></p><p style='margin:0 0 10 0;'><span style='font-size:12pt'>The new BushTel takes advantage of advances in contemporary government systems and data sources to provide reliable and contemporary community information to those needed it for planning and decision making.</span></p><p style='margin:0 0 10 0;'><span style='font-size:12pt'>BushTel, and its sister site, BushReady, (</span><a href='https://bushready.nt.gov.au/' style='text-decoration:underline;' rel='nofollow ugc'><span style='font-size:12pt'>bushready.nt.gov.au</span></a><span style='font-size:12pt'>) are part of the Remote Engagement and Coordination Strategy to improve the effectiveness of government policies and resourcing in remote communities.</span></p></div></div></div>
