Description: The Experimental Gross Regional Product (GRP) estimates layer is a combination of the non-spatial GRP 2021 data and the Statistical Areas Level 4 spatial dataset. The GRP data was sourced from the Bureau of Communications, Arts and Regional Research (BCARR), Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts. The Statistical Areas Level 4 2020 spatial dataset was sourced from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
Gross Regional Product (GRP) is an estimate of each region’s unique contribution to the national economy. While Australian regional economies are interlinked, GRP can be used as an indicator of local economic activity. The Australian Bureau of Statistics' Gross State Product was allocated to SA4s using a combination of Census income data by place of work, and a range of datasets relevant to understanding the location of economic activity in specific industries.
