Abstract:Local Government Areas is a spatial representation of the administrative divisions that local governments are responsible for across Australia defined by State and Territory governments. Local Government Areas aggregates the representations unique to each jurisdiction into a consistent seamless representation of the local government areas of Australia. Known Limitations:The Australian Government has negotiated the release of Administrative Boundaries to the whole economy under an [open CCBY 4.0 license](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). Users must only use the data in ways that are consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles issued under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).There are known issues with data overlaps and gaps.Lineage Statement:The data has originally been downloaded from the data.gov website in GDA2020 as zipped file containing all the state an territory shapefiles. The shapefiles were loaded into a geodatabase and the individual state and territory feature classes have been merged into a single national coverage. This data has then been projected to WGS 1984 Web Mercator (auxiliary sphere).The data was then clipped to the ABS States and Territories dataset. Gaps between the original data and the ABS States and Territories have been filled in, split into smaller parts and merged into the closest polygon from the original data if touching or very close to the original polygons, otherwise they have been assigned "Unincorporated" in LGA_NAME.The national coverage has been corrected to the ABS state and territory boundaries.
